2024 Cincinnati (Ohio) Hills Christian Academy three-star interior offensive lineman Charlton Luniewski signed with Michigan State on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-4.5, 285-pound Luniewski committed to Michigan State on June 26, following an official visit to East Lansing. He chose the Spartans over offers from Cincinnati, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Wisconsin, among others.

Luniewski is the No. 1123 prospect, No. 100 interior offensive lineman and No. 45 player from Ohio, per the On3 Industry Rankings.

He committed to Michigan State’s previous coaching staff, which included former offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic. Luniewski remained committed throughout the coaching search. He reaffirmed his commitment to the Spartans after they hired Jonathan Smith and offensive line coach Jim Michalczik.

Luniewski and his twin brother, Mercer, visited Michigan State again the weekend of Dec. 8. The twins wanted to go some place that priortized them both, and the Spartans did just that throughout this recruiting cycle.

Scouting summary

Luniewski is obviously similar to his brother Mercer in many ways. They both grew up playing basketball before switching to football in high school. Basketball helped both Luniewski brothers gain some extra mobility on the football field. Charlton is more raw than Mercer, but he possesses an equally high motor and willingness to learn.

Reminds us of

Luniewski has similar intangible qualities to USC offensive lineman Cooper Lovelace. Lovelace has become known as one of the more flexible offensive lineman in college football over the last few years. He graduated high school in 2019 and attended El Dorado (Kan.) Butler Community College.

Lovelace committed to USC in the spring of 2022 and has spent the past two seasons with the Trojans. He was the No. 1 interior offensive lineman prospect coming out of community college, per the 2019 On3 JUCO Rankings. He appeared in four games this fall.

Personal life

Both Luniewski twins arrived on the scene later than most, but Charlton took longer than Mercer to bloom into a Division I prospect. Mercer received his first Power Five offer in January, while Charlton received his first in March. The Luniewski twins were determined to play college football together, and Michigan State ended up being the right fit for them.
