On300 defensive back Jyaire Hill pulled the trigger and signed with Michigan over fellow finalist Illinois. He also held offers from Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, UCLA, Washington, Wisconsin and others.

Hill seesawed back and forth between Illinois and Michigan for the majority of the recruiting cycle. In the end, however, Hill felt most comfortable at Michigan.

“I like the coaches,” Hill said. “We’ve built a good connection. I like the stadium and the fans. The environment there is great.”

Those coaches — head man Jim Harbaugh and co-defensive coordinator Steve Clinkscale — hopped on the phone with him almost immediately after he signed his letter of intent. Watch part of their FaceTime, courtesy of our Zach Libby.

Michigan has jumped to No. 18 overall in the 2023 On3 Consensus National Team Recruiting Rankings following the first day of the early signing period on Wednesday, picking up the newest commitments in Kankakee (Ill.) High On300 cornerback Jyaire Hill and Phenix City (Ala.) Central On300 wide receiver Karmello English.

The Wolverines entered Wednesday with 21 verbal pledges, who all signed, to their recruiting class but have beat out Illinois and a slew of other Power 5 programs for Hill and overcoming Kentucky for English.

Prior to Wednesday, the Wolverines were 20th overall in the country, but now enter the College Football Playoff Semifinals with eight four-star commits and 15 three-star commits. The additions of Hill and English brought Michigan to a total score of 89.474 and helped the Wolverines move past Florida State and TCU.

Michigan basketball fell to North Carolina in the Jumpman Invitational, 80-76. Late in the game, head coach Juwan Howard appeared to lose his temper on an official. North Carolina head man Hubert Davis made a bigger scene after a no-call he disagreed with in the first half.
