Happy signing day, OU fans. You’ve made it another year, and Oklahoma is ready to move to the SEC. That’s what this 2024 class gets to do.

The Sooners enter the signing period No. 9 in the On3 rankings.

It’s not a foolproof process, but head coach Brent Venables is excited to see what the #24K class can bring to OU.

“Well, you recruit the right guys,” said Venables last week. “They’ve got the right stuff. They’re not expecting something for nothing. So you try to filter that in the recruiting process. Look at their network, their whatever village they have, what their support system looks like and make sure that they have a clear vision of how difficult — this will be the hardest thing you’ve ever done in your life. If you’re not ready for that, this ain’t the spot. This is gonna be the hardest thing you’ve ever done in your life, but it’s going to be worth it. And this is a developmental game. The more you play, the better you get.

“And so when you go to college the same thing is going to happen. There’s a transformation that takes place. And so if you come to Oklahoma, that’s what you’re signing up for. I think out of the top 20 ranked teams in college football to end the regular season, I think we had the most snaps of all freshmen and redshirt freshmen. So we promote that. There is opportunity. We’re trying to get everybody ready to play. We’re not trying to redshirt nobody.

“And you either show you need a little more development or you don’t. But just because — it’s not about where you start, it’s always about where you finish. And so you constantly stay connected. That’s — things that come easy don’t last long, period. And there aren’t no shortcuts. And so guys that are looking for a hole in the fence. I’m going to help them get over the fence. And we don’t really have that problem.

“Again, being around a college locker room for 30-plus years as a player and a coach, I know the value of trying to create a pathway and an opportunity beyond the field. And that’s not real popular in some places. But I do think it’s attractive to the guys that we recruit. And so we find that families are looking for a little more than just ball. And I love ball. Nobody loves it more than me. I love to compete. I love to win. But it’s dysfunctional if that’s all it is 24-7 when you come into the building.”

SoonerScoop did something incredibly different this year. Eddie Radosevich and George Stoia spoke to 13 signees over the weekend in this YouTube video produced by Carey Murdock. A chance for OU fans to get to know the group that is coming to Norman.
