An undefined job worth $1M/yr: Good work if you can get it.

Let me see if I understand this: Mitch gets a job that neither he nor the university can describe or define, yet someone has somehow determined that this undefined job without any stated goals is worth $1,000,000 per year. Is that about the gist of it? Also, as I understand it, we do know one thing: it's definitely not a golden parachute. Only a knucklehead like me would think that.

I just assumed that he moved into the position that was previously marked for Calipari, upon retirement from UK and coaching…. Makes sense that the department and position were already carved out and Mitch slid right into that “new” role.

I get people don’t like Mitch, but I’ve got to say, I’m a little surprised by all the outrage. There isn’t a CEO in the world that spends 25 years at a large company that doesn’t get a similar retirement gig and salary. Doing stuff like this encourages guys not to hold jobs longer than they need to. If you wanted Mitch gone as the AD, be happy because you got your wish. Not upset that he has another job that won’t deal with the inner workings of the department.

A publicly funded university and a private business are 2 different things.

The department is a LLC now, right? Everybody was ok that a basketball coach who spent half the time was going to have the same job when he hung it up. If you wanted him to not be the AD, be happy. His clock is ticking!

Well this is just dumb because why should athletics pay a million dollar salary to a non-athletics position? Quit trying to rationalize their subterfuge.

Haven't been to a FF since 2015. He's been of no benefit to us for a long time.

As for what he is actually going to do for the $1M+, I believe he is "working through the pieces"

Mitch giving insane contracts, making UK athletics a LLC and now his made up over paid job….. something just seems corrupt here! Perhaps it’s a series of poor decisions but it certainly seems odd and should at least be investigated.

Surely it was a posted job that the public could apply for?

You’d be stunned to see the 6 figure salaries at all athletic departments of this scale that will do less for the athletes than Mitch’s new role will. It was time for him to go. The new job just isn’t that big of a deal in my mind.

Apparently there’s a budget crisis in UK athletics, but somehow have enough room to pay him a million a year and also give him over a million dollars in tickets every year for the rest of his life. Thats not even mentioning the million they’ll pay the new AD. They’ll do all that and then ask all the fans that don’t even make close to half of what Mitch makes for money to support the teams. You don’t see a problem with that?

Wasn’t Cal’s position supposed to be a “university” ambassador role? In theory he’d at least be turning up at fundraisers shaking hands, kissing babies, trying to raise money for the school and/or UK Athletics

What kind of mental gymnastics is that? Fans should be HAPPY that our bum AD is making 950k a year for a job that no knows what he is actually doing?? On top of that, UK Athletics is making budget cuts and begging for donations? Yeah, GTFO with that. Between this and the JMI deal, Barnhart is shady at best. UK needs to rid the university of him, he is an absolute cancer.

It may be common, but a camel's back can carry a lot of straw before the final piece lands.

Thank you for informing me of the little known fact. I had no idea athletic departments were rolling in cash because for some reason UK sends me requests for donations on a regular basis. Now I can so no and realize they don't need a dime from me anymore.

We’ve had assistant coaches with very similar titles and much less equity built up with the university. I’m good with it.
