McCasland breaks down LSU Matchup

by: Hunter Dawson9 hours ago

This Sunday, the Red Raiders will take on the undefeated LSU Tigers at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. The day before, the Red Raider football team will be playing at AT&T Stadium for the Big 12 Championship. Safe to say the DFW area is going to be seeing a lot of red this weekend. Coach McCasland was asked about this in a press conference earlier this afternoon.

Coach McCasland on this weekend

“There’s so many great things happening in Lubbock right now, and we don’t prefer to play games outside of Lubbock. We’d like to play all our games in the USA, but this is a unique opportunity that we hope we get to make this a tradition… Last year we played this game on Sunday also, and we have a great opponent in LSU and great opponent in football in BYU, and a great fan base.”

My Take: I liked McCasland making the point on this becoming a tradition in the future. With the recent success of the football team and the uphill trajectory of the program, this could definitely be something that happens annually. The DFW area has a lot of Texas Tech fans, and it is not too far from Lubbock for the fans to travel to.

Coach McCasland on the LSU matchup

“Well, they’re significantly improved. I mean, it’s not a coincidence that they’re 8-0… LSU has every position with experience. I feel like they can leverage it. I mean, at the point, to the rim, to perimeter scoring, to rebounding, their switching defense, their competitiveness defensively, they have fire power.”

My Take: This was his response to a question asked about LSU being undefeated but not having played hard competition yet. Saying that there is a reason they are undefeated, and not because they haven’t been challenged yet. Rather, LSU is a well coached and put together team who plays well on all sides on the ball.
