West Virginia head coach Mark Kellogg met with the media ahead of the first round NCAA Tournament game against Miami (Oh.) and WVSports.com provides a summary of what was said.

–Kellogg said they are excited to host but it doesn’t guarantee them anything. West Virginia will have an electric atmosphere and when they tip-off at 5 p.m. that atmosphere will be great.

–Kellogg said that he hasn’t felt pressure with hosting. He is excited for the program, the state and it’s a tremendous opportunity to host for the first time in 34 years. There is so much work that goes into it and the players are excited to play here. He will have the same anxious butterflies like he does before every game but he hasn’t felt the pressure.

–Miami (Oh.) is a championship team and are used to winning and playing with a ton of confidence. They can shoot it and are known for what they do on the defensive end. They have a dynamic point guard and are versatile and deep. Miami is a very good and well coached team. For West Virginia it’s about being as disruptive as possible to take them out of what they want to do.

–Kellogg said it’s surreal, exciting to see all of the March Madness stuff inside Hope Coliseum. It has a different feel but that’s a good thing.

–Kellogg said they have talked about not being too high and too amped to start the game. You draw on your previous experiences and you want to get through that first rotation in the first quarter but then you relax at that point and just play.

–Kellogg said that his relationship with Jordan Harrison goes back to her high school days. She choose to come here without ever visiting and to watch her grow and develop as a person and player has been exciting. She has continued to fight through it and a lot of times that’s what it takes. To watch it start there and Harrison is the point guard of the group that hosts an NCAA Tournament game for the first time in 34 years and that’s something she’ll always remember.

–Kellogg has hosted at the Division II level so he hasn’t needed any advice on what it’s like from other coaches.

–The plan is to go to Charleston tonight for the state tournament and he wants to be careful to be a great father and husband, but he will have a problem if his son’s team advances tomorrow. He is excited for him and the boys basketball team at Morgantown.

–Kellogg said your mind is racing at this point and it doesn’t really turn off. He is fortunate for the situation that he is in.
