NCAA says Robinson ineligible regardless of injunction hearing

A decision is still pending on whether four West Virginia players will be granted an injunction against the NCAA, which would allow them to continue practicing and competing while their case is decided.
During Wednesday’s hearing, however, the NCAA’s attorney told the court that defensive lineman Jimmori Robinson would not be eligible to play even if the injunction were granted.
“The NCAA will either later today or tomorrow advise Mr. Robinson that he is academically ineligible because he did not complete the six hours that were necessary at the University of Texas San Antonio,” the attorney said.
The attorney also stated that a waiver had been filed on Robinson’s behalf but was denied.
“The NCAA has made a decision that the waiver will be denied so Mr. Robinson is not in the position to have his eligibility restored by a ruling from this court and the NCAA believes the fact that he’s academically ineligible is an independent basis to deny his request for relief here today.”
Robinson, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound redshirt senior from Alexandria, Virginia, transferred to WVU after four seasons at UTSA. He played in 43 games and recorded 15 sacks and 30 tackles for loss during his career, including 10.5 sacks in 2024.
If the NCAA’s position holds, his academic standing will prevent him from taking the field this season, regardless of the injunction outcome.
