Kentucky Commits Destin Wade, Barion Brown Win Tennessee Mr. Football
The best football players in the state of Tennessee will soon call Kentucky home. Tuesday morning Destin Wade was named Tennessee Mr. Football in class 6A. It’s a prestigious honor, but it came at a cost. Destin defeated his brother, Keaten, to win the title of Mr. Football.
The Wades weren’t the only future Wildcats collecting hardware today in Nashville. Barion Brown was named Tennessee Mr. Football in class 4A after his final campaign at Pearl-Cohn High School.
Versatile High School Weapons
There’s one thing the two future Cats share in common. They each did a little bit of everything for their high schools.
Brown will play receiver at the next level. On a few high school Friday nights he lined up at quarterback and ran a Lynn Bowden-esque offense. He finished the year with 817 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on 59 carries. He also caught 22 passes for 303 yards and three TDs. On defense Brown has 24 tackles with two for loss. You can also see a few special teams touchdowns on his midseason highlight reel.
Unlike Brown, Wade was a full-time quarterback at Summit High School, leading the Spartans to 25-straight wins before ultimately falling in last Saturday’s 6A State Title. According to The Tennessean, Wade rushed for 1,463 yards and 21 touchdowns, and threw for 926 yards with 12 scores. The numbers on MaxPreps pop even more, but I think the Nashville newspaper’s numbers have a little more credibility. One thing is certain, Vince Marrow was right.
Wade Twins set to Visit, Sign
The Wades will spend their final weekend as unsigned prospects in Lexington, officially visiting alongside other talented recruits. The official visit will give them time to get more acquainted with their new Kentucky home and enjoy a delicious dinner at Jeff Ruby’s. Shortly after returning to Tennessee, they’ll sign with the Wildcats. Until then, enjoy some of their best work as prep prospects.
