Antonio Reeves makes it official

After a slight delay, Illinois State transfer Antonio Reeves ultimately decided to stick with his gut and commit to the Kentucky Wildcats.

“His goal is to win a national championship and that is my goal,” Reeves told ESPN’s Paul Biancardi. “I want to learn from who I feel is the best and that is Coach Cal and his staff. Coach Cal loves his players, he loves the game, developed pros and won a national championship. That’s what attracted me to Kentucky. Coach Cal is a very relatable guy. Also [assistant] coach Chin Coleman and my dad are really good friends. They went to the same high school at different times so they know each other from the city. I trust him 100 percent.”

Reeves led Illinois State in scoring as a junior, averaging 20.1 points on 46.9% from the field, 39.0% from three and 81.8% from the line to go with 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per contest. The newest Wildcat led the Missouri Valley Conference and finished top 20 in all of Division I. It was his best year in college, averaging 7.2 points per game as a freshman and then 12.4 per game as a sophomore.

KSR’s Jack Pilgrim took us inside the last few days of Reeves’ commitment to show how the situation unfolded. You can check that out at the link here. KSR’s in-depth roster tracker has also been updated.

A surprise Yahtzee

The BBN received an unexpected commitment Wednesday afternoon. Jordan Robinson, a 6-foot-4, 193-pound defensive back from South Carolina, announced he will attend the University of Kentucky.

Robinson entered the transfer portal this spring. After picking up some offers from the likes of EKU and Samford in the FCS ranks, Appalachian State entered the picture. He committed four days after the Mountaineers extended a scholarship. Oregon State became his first Power Five offer a week later.

It’s uncertain when the University of Kentucky began recruiting Jordan Robinson, although KSR believes this is the work of cornerbacks coach Chris Collins. UK’s pursuit of Robinson remained quiet until he announced his commitment to the Cats Wednesday afternoon. He’s the second addition to the secondary since the conclusion of spring practice, following Ole Miss transfer Keidron Smith.

Last year Robinson played for Livingstone College, a Division II school in Salisbury, North Carolina that finished the 2021 season 1-8. Robinson recorded 13 tackles, one interception and one pass break-up for the Blue Bears.

Adam Luckett has a Film Room breakdown of Robinson right here.

Oscar Tshiebwe steals the show at the CATPSYs

The 20th annual CATPSY Awards was held on Wednesday night where 61 different Wildcat student-athletes were recognized for their achievements across the 2021-22 season. Men’s Basketball superstar Oscar Tshiebwe was tabbed as Mr. Wildcat while WBB star Rhyne Howard (now in the WNBA) and track star Abby Steiner were both named Miss Wildcat.

As he tends to be, Tshiebwe was one of the highlights of the events thanks to his awesome acceptance speech.

Baby Cal to LIU

Brad Calipari is taking his coaching talents to Brooklyn. After spending one year in Lexington as a graduate assistant, Calipari has been hired as a special assistant to the head coach at LIU Brooklyn under Derek Kellogg.

Kellogg, who played for Kentucky head coach John Calipari at UMass, has been the coach of the Sharks since 2017.

Dre’Una Edwards lands at Baylor

The hero of the 2022 SEC Tournament has found a new home. Former Kentucky forward Dre’Una Edwards announced through social media on Wednesday that she’s landed with the Baylor Bears, where she will continue her college basketball career.

Justin Powell on the move again

Former North Oldham product turned future Auburn Tiger and Tennessee Volunteer, Justin Powell, has once again entered the transfer portal. Powell is the fifth Tennessee player to announce a transfer following the conclusion of the 2021-22 season and he will seek an immediate eligibility waiver. He struggled to find playing time throughout his first two college seasons and will now look to find a permanent home.
