Michigan State lands transfer portal quarterback Tommy Schuster
Michigan State added another quarterback to their QB room on Jan. 7, adding former North Dakota quarterback Tommy Schuster, originally of Macomb (Mich.). He announced his commitment via social media.
Schuster has spent the previous five seasons with North Dakota, where he cemented his place in school history as the all-time record holder for passing yards in a career (9,055), all-time completions (840) and touchdown passes thrown (63). He also rushed for five more touchdowns, throwing 23 interceptions with UND.
In 2023, Schuster threw for 2,238 yards, and 19 touchdowns to five interceptions. He completed 206 of 292 passes (70.5%). As a high schooler at Chippewa Valley, he became the first QB in Michigan high school history to not throw an incompletion in a state title game. Schuster was 13-for-13 through the air for 205 yards and two touchdowns in the Chippewa Valley victory over Clarkston in 2019.
Schuster (6-0, 175) has one year of eligibility remaining. He joins fellow transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles in the Spartan QB room, as Chiles transferred in from Oregon State earlier this off-season. Chiles is expected to be the starter, with Schuster coming in to provide valuable experience and competition to the room.
Michigan State also signed two quarterbacks in the class of 2024 in three-stars Alessio Milivojevic and Ryland Jessee as both enroll in January to begin their true freshman seasons. The Spartans landed both Jessee and Milivojevic late in the 2024 recruiting cycle, with offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren and head coach Jonathan Smith leading the charge. Jessee was a former Oregon State target, and Utah State commitment, while Milivojevic was formerly committed to Ball State.
The Spartans now have a complete four-man quarterback room after losing all three scholarship quarterbacks from the 2023 Michigan State roster in Katin Houser (Eastern Carolina), Noah Kim (Coastal Carolina) and Sam Leavitt (Arizona State).
