Battle of Quarterbacks, Receiver, Lead Future Sooners MVP Battle

Oklahoma’s class of 2024 and 2025 prospects are knee deep in their seasons and with the season now in full swing it’s time for our weekly ‘Future Sooners’. We’ll be keeping track and gauging just how Oklahoma’s pledges fared in their week five games. Also, a look at where the current Oklahoma commitments can be seen this upcoming weekend around the country.

The Skinny: Aisosa and Santa Fe had the week off.

Next Week: Santa Fe (1-1) is hosting Edmond Memorial.

The Skinny: Autry and Itawamba got back on the winning track after two straight losses. The Sooners commit helped his team to a big 31-21 win over New Albany.

Next Week: Itawamba (2-2) is hosting Oliver Branch Lewisburg.

The Skinny: The Sooners commit came up just short in a game of big swings that ended in a 31-28 loss to Prosper. Guyer jumped up 9-0 early before Prosper scored 17 straight. Guyer would close the game with two straight scores but it wasn’t quite enough.

Next Week: Guyer (2-2) is hosting Little Elm.

The Skinny: Brooks and Sierra Canyon notched another big win, downing Orange Lutheran 40-6. They are closing in on a top four bid into the CIF division one playoffs which would pit them into the Bosco/Mater Dei stratosphere during the playoffs.

Next Week: Sierra Canyon (4-0) is hosting Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro.

The Skinny: Carreon had another big night with eight receptions for 133 yards and a 34-yard touchdown. Odessa trailed 22-0 at the end of the first quarter but scored 36 of the next 49 points to win 36-35 over Amarillo.

Next Week: Odessa (2-2) is traveling to Schertz (Texas) Clemens on Thu., Sept. 21.

The Skinny: Daniels, who has moved over to Bowling Green mid-season, helped his team down Wayne Academy 30-20. Daniels had 111 all purpose yards on the night and caught a touchdown as well.

Next Week: Bowling Green (4-2) is hosting Columbia (Miss.) Academy.

The Skinny: Timber Creek and Ezukanma ran into a buzz saw on Thursday night falling to Southlake Carroll 44-0. Ezukanma opened the game with a 70-yard kickoff return but from there the Dragons kept his quarterback under pressure to the point Ezukanma could only manage tow catches for four yards.

Next Week: Timber Creek (2-2) is visiting Trophy Club Byron Nelson.

The Skinny: Rogers and Gilmore demolished Ironhead 52-21. Gilmore had a big night with four tackles, one sack, one quarterback hurry, and a fumble recovery. But it’s not just on defense where he enjoys punishing people.

Next Week: Rogers (3-0) is hosting Spring Lake Park.

The Skinny: Hardy and Lewisville had the week off.

Next Week: Lewisville (2-1) is hosting Flower Mound.

The Skinny: Badly in need of a win Ennis got on track with a 56-6 demolition of Corsicana. And in that game Harris scored a touchdown in about every way possible – save for a receiving touchdown. Yes, you heard that right the prize receiver was 3-5 passing for 89 yards and an 81-yard touchdown and also 79 yards rushing and two touchdowns (31, 20) on five carries. Meanwhile he had just 72 yards on two receptions at receiver.

Next Week: Ennis (1-3) is traveling to Everman.

The Skinny: Another huge weekend for Hawkins who helped Emerson to a 62-16 win over Mount Pleasant. Hawkins was 16-23 for 228 yards and four touchdowns (19, 24, 27, 24). On the ground he had six carries for 102 yards and an 64-yard touchdown.

Next Week: Emerson (4-0) is hosting Denton on Thu., Sept. 21.

The Skinny: IMG just keeps rolling and downed Ohio power Cleveland Glenville 28-6.

Next Week: IMG (4-0) has the week off.

The Skinny: Kearney had to leave the game with some cramps and Ft. Bend Hightower came up short of Ridge point 43-36.

Next Week: Hightower (3-1) is hosting Ft. Bend Bush.

The Skinny: Los Al fought against one of the best in Southern California but in three overtimes came up short of Mission Viejo – 34-28. Mitchell had a 20-yard touchdown catch on a fourth down situation.

Next Week: Los Alamitos (3-2) has the week off.

The Skinny: North and Moore dismissed rivals Lee’s Summit 37-16.

Next Week: North (4-0) is traveling to Blue Valley Northwest.

The Skinny: Casteel and Newcombe shrugged off a tough loss to answer with a big win over their own crushing Phoenix Browne 51-0.

Next Week: Casteel (3-1) is hosting Sunrise Valley Vista.

The Skinny: Nesta and Hough buried North Mecklenburg 52-7. Nesta had some big moments with a tackle for loss on a stretch play and also had a pick six on a short pass while playing EDGE. Watch the plays here.

Next Week: Hough (3-1) is hosting Chambers.

The Skinny: A week after scoring 81 Millwood scored just six in a quiet offensive night for Nickens and the Falcons. Though they did manage a 6-0 win over Scott City, Kan.

Next Week: Millwood (2-1) is traveling to Alva.

The Skinny: Patterson-McDonald and the Jaguars had the week off.

Next Week: Westmoore (1-2) is hosting Moore.

The Skinny: Ragins had a big night on Jones County’s way to a 54-12 win over Locust Grove. He had a two touchdowns (15, 87) along with a 10-yard carry that was a near touchdown as well.

Next Week: Jones County (3-2) has the week off.

The Skinny: Carl Albert and Robinson just keep rolling this time downing Elk City 56-14. The powerful Sooners commitment had three touchdowns on the night (6, 17, 14).

Next Week: Carl Albert (4-0) is hosting Lawton Eisenhower.

The Skinny: Melissa’s defense saw a tougher night in Smith’s first full week as a Sooners commitment. But still the Cardinals continued their march on the quest for a state title – crushing Crandall 67-28. Smith had a strong night with eight tackles, .5 a sack, one tackle for loss, and two quarterback hurries.

Next Week: Melissa (4-0) is hosting Terrell.

The Skinny: Sperry kept his momentum from last week’s big one rolling in a 56-14 win over Elk City. He had a pair of big touchdowns with scores of 56 and 64 yards in the Titans big win.

Next Week: Carl Albert (4-0) is hosting Lawton Eisenhower

The Skinny: IMG just keeps rolling and downed Ohio power Cleveland Glenville 28-6. Stone was a menace with four tackles for loss, two sacks, and a safety.

WEEK 5 MVP

The Skinny: In a big East Texas rivalry game Longview downed Lufkin 42-0. The Sooners star running back commitment had a pair of touchdowns (1, 8).

Next Week: Longview (3-1) is traveling to Lancaster.

The Skinny: Thomas just keeps putting out dominant efforts. This time he had eight catches for 142 yards and an 81-yard touchdown that pretty much broke arch rival Eufaula’s back in a 54-27. He also had a 35-yard interception return for touchdown in a big eastern Oklahoma grudge match.

Next Week: Checotah (3-1) is hosting Muldrow.

The Skinny: The Sooners commit had an absolutely huge night but Alliance came up just short in a 48-46 thrilled with Canton Central Catholic. On the night Zurbrugg was 22-27 for 332 yards and five touchdowns along with 20 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown.

Next Week: Alliance (3-2) is hosting Salem.
