Oregon is looking for some new linebackers to step up in 2025 following Jeffrey Bassa‘s departure for the NFL, and redshirt freshman Kamar Mothudi is in line to hear his number called. He was one of three linebackers the Ducks signed in the 2024 class and he’s in the thick of competition in fall camp.

Below are key quotes from his Wednesday media availability.

On what it meant for the linebacker room to have Bryce Boettcher return

Mothudi: “Definitely a lot. Having a person who’s done it before come back, be able to guide us. It’s a lot of experience there. So taking the notes he gives us and the words of wisdom he has.”

On his growth in the last year

Mothudi: “I got here in January last year. Going through spring and fall camp last year was definitely more so just getting my feet wet. Kind of getting the ins and outs of the program, ins and outs of the playbook. And getting in the weight room, getting my body bigger, stronger, my mind ready. Just so I’m able to compete and play.

On feeling prepared to be called upon

Mothudi: “I’m ready. So whenever my number’s called and the coaches give an opportunity, I’ll make the most of it.”

On how the 2024 linebacker class leaned on each other to get through last season

Mothudi: “Brayden (Platt), D-Will (Dylan Williams), the guys I came with, those are my brothers. If it’s us just chilling eating lunch together, watching film in the film room together, those are my guys. So definitely leaned on each other to get through spring ball, fall camp, learn the playbook together, watch film.”

On what he wanted to attack this offseason

Mothudi: “The word I gave myself, the word I wanted this season to be was poised. Just being cool, calm and collected. Being able to take everything in, see the field. I feel like when I came in, especially going through spring ball, fall camp last year. My head was spinning all over the place. Getting the call, where to look, where to line up. So just being poised and I think I’ve definitely taken that step over this last year.”

On Lanning showing confidence in linebackers, not taking transfer portal linebacker

Mothudi: “It’s something I already knew. I knew he believed in us and was glad that he showed it.”
