Calvert Hall (Maryland) three-star safety Chris Hewitt Jr. has decommitted from Rutgers Football and flipped his commitment to Georgia Tech, he announced on social media today.

The 5-foot-10. 190-pound safety prospect originally committed to the Scarlet Knights back in late January following an unofficial visit to campus, but just made the decision recently to decommit and found a new home down in Atlanta.

This news shouldn’t be too shocking for Rutgers fans, as it was reported on The Round Table forum on The Knight Report earlier today.

Now Hewitt did have a few connections to the Scarlet Knights, as his father (Chris Hewitt Sr.) was an assistant coach for Rutgers under Greg Schiano from 2004-11 and his uncle (Matt Hewitt) was an assistant at Rutgers from 2017-24. However in the end, he wanted to go elsewhere.

With the news of Hewitt’s flip, he becomes the 10th prospect to decommit from the Huskies this recruiting cycle. This news also leaves the 2026 recruiting class with just six total commits. The Huskies 2026 class is currently ranked No. 120+ in the country per the Rivals Industry rankings.

The good news for the Scarlet Knights is that they still have a pretty heavy defensive back haul, featuring Florida prospects JJ Conyers, Devonte Anderson, Sebastian Cruz, and Brandon Murray from Virginia. You could also potentially add in RJ Wortman from Central Jersey (it exists), as he could play one of multiple positions at the next level including safety.
