Crimson Countdown: No. 74 Darius Afalava

The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2025 Oklahoma football season. Everybody wants to forget about 2024 and move forward.
Head coach Brent Venables and staff have attempted to do that. New face calling the offense (Ben Arbuckle). Venables calling the defense, it’s now or never for this regime at OU in the SEC. No beating around the bush.
Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.
Crimson Countdown: No. 74 Darius Afalava
2024 stats: NA
2025 outlook: Darius Afalava arrives in Norman as one of the more highly-regarded offensive linemen in the 2025 class. From Lehi, Utah, he was rated as the nation’s No. 22 offensive guard by ESPN and was widely considered a four-star prospect. He chose Oklahoma over Utah, Washington, and Michigan State.

As for the 2025 season, Afalava likely won’t see the field much. He missed the spring with a minor knee injury. And he enters an offensive line room with a good amount of depth and talent. Still, there is a large belief that Afalava will eventually be a starter for the Sooners during his career.
2025 interior offensive lineman outlook
This is one of the positions on the roster that seems to have plenty of bodies and talent but what remains is a lot of interest over who will be in the rotation. At right guard and center the Sooners return maybe the line’s two most clear starters in Febechi Nwaiwu and Troy Everett, respectively. However, there is competition chasing both including transfer Jake Maikkula and incoming standout freshman Ryan Fodje. On the left side Heath Ozaeta missed spring practice while recovering from a shoulder injury. The name to keep an eye on as a big riser is redshirt freshman Eddy Pierre-Louis.
