If you didn’t already know, we are creeping dangerously close to the start of the college football season. And Oregon will once again be in the hunt for a conference championship and hopefully a playoff berth.

After last season’s perfect run through the Big Ten conference, it’s going to be tough to temper expectations for this year’s team. While there is plenty of talent, there isn’t quite as much experience which could make things interesting.

We think Dante Moore will be the quarterback this season but so far have yet to hear any declaration on that topic. And I doubt we will until game week or even game day.

I’ve ranked the top three toughest home and away games, today I’ll tackle the whole schedule and rank the games based on toughness.

Let’s get right into the list.

12. Oregon State – The Beavs have not made this much of a rivalry lately. I’m glad the tradition has been preserved but this is really a tune-up game for Oregon.

11. @ Northwestern – Gave them the nod ahead of OSU because it’s a road game. Otherwise, this one is not much of a match talent-wise.

10. Oklahoma State – It’s strange to me to think Okie State has fallen this far. The once high-powered offenses seem to be missing and the Pokes have not recruited especially well in the NIL era.

9. Wisconsin – The Badgers gave Oregon a helluva run in Madison last season. They certainly caught Oregon flat-footed. Because of that, they won’t this year.

8. @ Rutgers – There is no doubt in my mind a road game against a team coached by Greg Schiano screams trap game. They have a legit pass game threat and Oregon will need to be sharp for this one.

7. Montana State – Yep, I have Montana State up at No. 7 ahead of much bigger programs. Opening game against a good FCS opponent, I’ve seen this story before. It will be closer than it should.

6. Minnesota – PJ Fleck might have his best program he’s had in Minny. They will be pesky and I’m really glad it’s a home game for Oregon.

5. Indiana – I thought Indy was overhyped last year and they were exposed any time they played a quality team. I think we’ll see the same thing again this season.

4. @ Iowa – Is this the year? Do they finally have an offense? We think so. They might be this years Indiana even though Indy thinks they’ll do it again. At Iowa is going to be a tough out.

3. @ Washington – These last three are all tough for different reasons. I’m not sure Washington has the depth so injuries could be problematic late in the season. Furthermore, they have a tough (er) schedule this season so losing four games is totally plausible. (Ohio State, Michigan, Illinois, Oregon)

2. USC – I think overall, this is Riley’s most talented team he’s had in Los Angeles. It’s still lacking for depth but they are better across the board. I’m not sold they are as deadly on offense with Jayden Maiava leading them, but he’ll have weapons around him. The downside, they have some really tough games this season. They will play Oregon as tough as anyone this season, guaranteed.

.1. @ Penn State – Any list that doesn’t have this game at No. 1 is just foolish. On the road, white out, hostile environment, early in the season. This will be the litmus test for Lanning and his squad to know early on where they are in the pecking order. This is James Franklin’s year, he has the talent and staff, but it’s still up to him to get it done.
