Inside Texas Q&A: Georgia on All of Our Minds

Since 2022, Steve Sarkisian’s Texas Longhorns are 10-1 in November. The lone loss was to TCU the year the Horned Frogs made the national title game. The last two Novembers required good play for the Longhorns to make the playoffs and they delivered. This November is already off to a strong start with a win over previously No. 9 Vanderbilt at home. Life is about to get even more difficult, however, as Texas heads to Athens to take on No. 5 Georgia.

UT averaged 30 yds rushing last year in 2 games with UGA, with what most would say was a better OL.
Is there a way you see UT rushing for anything close to 100 yds, and do you feel Baxter could be more involved? – SL-20
They’re only going to run the ball if they find success passing the ball. The run game just needs to be efficient, that’s not determined by total yards necessarily. Can they pick up four yards on first down? Can they convert some third and shorts?
Texas didn’t run for a lot against Vandy but in conjunction with the shorter passing attack they found balance. They need to find some semblance of balance.
I wish they’d get James Simon more involved.
I think this is a big prove it game for the Texas wide receivers. Personally I don’t think we need to hit the portal at WR but this will be the best secondary since Ohio state. What I need to see is the broken tackles the wide receivers forced vs vandy and just getting open. Is that possible or are Georgias DBS that much better than vandys? – Oklahoma_Longhorn
Ole Miss made hay on the perimeter and Texas can too, but it won’t be as easy as it was against Vanderbilt.
I hope they have a big game so I can stop hearing about Cam Coleman.
Can we limit Georgia rushing with an honest box or bend but not break in the redzone?
Without overloading with numbers, can Georgia pressure Arch? – FlankHerRight
It’ll depend on what personnel UGA is running. They like their double tight end looks which Texas will likely match with bigger D-line personnel. Texas will need to get Jelani in and around the box, imo. Great game for Cover 3 and the flexibility against the run it provides. We’ll probably see Jelani at nickel some, too.

That doesn’t rule out bend but don’t break coverage principles. Regardless, they have to win the Red Zone.
I don’t think they’ll get much pressure on Arch without bringing linebackers.
Before talking to some sources this afternoon, what’s your confidence level for the game? What would you like to hear from your sources to increase that? – CKey
I’ve got Texas losing a close one in the 20’s.
I’d probably need to hear about an angle that can be exploited that I haven’t accounted for.
But, I’m not sure I’m capable of picking them. They’ve been a poor road team this year. Night game on the road against No. 5 Georgia?
Right now, I think they play pretty well but fall short.
What are Texas’ advantages in this game? – HunterBradford
1. Bye week
2. Should have time to pass, especially with quicker hitting routes
3. Pass rush + contain
4. Good run defense should help offset their strong run game
5. I think they can work the perimeter in the passing game, but not like it did against Vandy
