Minnesota Golden Gophers wide receiver commitment Kai Meza began his senior season on Friday night as the Corner Canyon Chargers took on the Bingham Miners out of South Jordan, Utah.

Projected to be a blowout by the Massey Ratings, Corney Canyon dominated Bingham 45-0. The Chargers are ranked not only as the top team in the state of Utah by the Massey ratings but also the No. 21 team in the nation. Bingham is a solid team in their own right, ranked No. 12 in Utah and a top-300 team nationally.

Meza had a huge part in that blowout win as the Gopher commitment secured six receptions for 145 yards including a 96-yard touchdown reception. It’s certaintly a strong start to Meza’s senior season as the three-star prospect recorded 46 receptions for 944 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior a year ago.

Meza is not the only Power Four commit on the Cooper Canyon roster as he’s joined by four-star offensive lineman Esun Tafa, a USC commitment and four-star quarterback Helaman Casuga, a Texas A&M commitment. 2027 safety Diesel Dart, the younger brother of former Ole Miss signal caller and recent first round pick Jaxon Dart also is a standout member of the Chargers.

Meza committed to the Gophers over offers from Arkansas, Boise State, Cal, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah, and Washington State among others.

“The moment I stepped on campus, I felt something different — a truly special feeling,” Meza previously told Gophers Nation about his commitment. “Head Coach P.J. Fleck and Wide Receivers Coach Matt Simon are two outstanding leaders, and there’s no doubt in my mind that I want to be coached by them.”

Their program is something I genuinely want to be a part of,” he added. “The belief the coaching staff has in me means a lot, and I truly believe I can make an impact within this program.”

After completing his senior season, with the hopes of helping guide the program to a third-straight state title, Meza plans to enroll with the Gophers’ this upcoming January.
