Minnesota lands former Ohio State commit Aaron Thomas

The Minnesota Golden Gophers 2026 recruiting class added a major piece on Wednesday afternoon as Mountain Pointe (AZ) offensive tackle Aaron Thomas announced his decision to be a Golden Gopher.
Thomas, ranked by Rivals as a top-50 offensive tackle nationally and a top-10 player in the state of Arizona, decommitted from the Ohio State Buckeyes earlier this week before announcing his decision to be a Gopher.
The Golden Gophers were a major presence early on in Thomas’s recruitment, but initially fell to the wayside as his recruitment began to pick up steam this past offseason.
The three-star prospect is the fourth commitment for Minnesota this week, joining running back Jett Walker, wide receiver Braiden Stevens, and offensive lineman Beckett Schreiber.
Thomas is the Gophers’ fifth offensive line commitment in the cycle, joining in-state four-star Andrew Trout, Wisconsin three-star Gavin Meier, and Ohio three-star Lucas Tielsch. The Gophers also recently hosted Indiana offensive tackle Jonas Muya on an official visit.
Thomas notably never took an official visit to Minnesota in his recruitment, making trips instead to Washington, Ohio State, Florida State, and Texas A&M.
