Background on Florida freshman Tramell Jones
This appearance marks the second for freshman Tramell Jones this season for the Florida Gators. The true freshman saw his debut in UF’s season-opening win over Long Island, where he completed 12 of 18 passes for 131 yards and 2 touchdowns. Since entering the game against Kentucky, Tramell Jones has completed 5 of 8 passes for 33 yards.
The Florida Gators signed Jones in the 2025 recruiting class after flipping his commitment from Florida State last fall. According to the Rivals Industry Rankings, Jones was ranked as the No. 279 overall prospect in the 2025 class, the No. 21-ranked quarterback, and the No. 41 prospect in the state of Florida.
In his high school career at Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin, Tramell Jones appeared in 35 games for the Mustangs. In his four-year high school career, Jones completed 451 of 760 passes for 7197 passing yards, 75 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions.
His senior season was cut short in Week 2 after a broken fibula and torn ligaments in his left leg. He enrolled at UF in January and remained limited throughout spring practice. Following his enrollment, he quickly impressed his UF teammates.
“I’ve seen a lot of growth. He’s electrifying,” linebacker Myles Graham said earlier this year. “You can see it with his legs. He can do it with his arm. He’s got a great, deep ball. He’s accurate. He’ll be a great player for us one day. Him learning from DJ, that’s a deadly combo right there, and I think after DJ’s gone, he’ll be a great player for us.”

DJ Lagway continues to be turnover-prone
Heading into this weekend’s content, Florida quarterback DJ Lagway had thrown 10 touchdowns compared to 9 interceptions. Through the first three quarters in Lexington, Lagway has added another touchdown. However, that’s paired with 3 more interceptions to his season numbers. He’s also completed 11 of 19 passes for 83 yards along with 5 rushes for 27 yards on he ground. It’s been a tough year for Lagway, and the Florida offense has felt the bulk of those struggles. The Gators are averaging 22.1 total yards per game and have only found the endzone once in their latest game.
On the season to date, Lagway has completed 160 of 246 passes (65%), 1679 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, but also has 12 interceptions.
