Florida WR Eugene Wilson III to have season-ending ankle surgery

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida wide receiver Eugene Wilson III will undergo season-ending surgery for the second year in a row. The redshirt sophomore is having ankle surgery this week, UF interim coach Billy Gonzales announced on Monday.
Wilson III suffered the injury against Georgia and missed the Kentucky game. He has 27 catches for 239 yards and three touchdowns in eight games played with four starts.
“Eugene is going to have surgery on Wednesday. He’ll have ankle surgery. He had a high ankle sprain. He’s going to have a tightrope procedure to give him the best opportunity to get back for himself and get ready for spring ball,” Gonzales said. “Tough son of a gun.
“He got hurt during the Georgia game and pushed through it, came back in the second half and just battled and talking to the training staff, they said, I’ve not seen a lot of people being able to do what he did, be able to come back and play that second half in with the injury that he had. So, we’re going to get cleaned up, and he’ll have surgery on Wednesday.”
Gonzales confirmed that the surgery will sideline Wilson III for the rest of the year. He had season-ending hip surgery in 2024 and redshirted after four games played.
