Oklahoma's Daniel Akinkunmi works on a drill during the University of Oklahoma (OU) spring football practice at the Everest Training Center in Norman, Okla., Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2025 Oklahoma football season. Everybody wants to forget about 2024 and move forward.

Head coach Brent Venables and staff have attempted to do that. New face calling the offense (Ben Arbuckle). Venables calling the defense, it’s now or never for this regime at OU in the SEC. No beating around the bush.

Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.

Crimson Countdown: No. 75 Daniel Akinkunmi

2024 stats: Played against Maine for eight snaps.

2025 outlook:

Akinkunmi was always fighting uphill in the 2024 season after suffering an injury that took him out of spring practice. Beyond being a freshman the London native was also playing football in the States for the first time in his career and the speed of the game was, at times, a lot to deal with for the young blocker.

A year later he seems to be making real strides and his blend of talent and intelligence have him as a player who has a real future.

The question of what role he plays in 2025 obviously still remains up for debate. That being said, he has transformed his body and looks outstanding as he goes through his first fully healthy offseason. He’ll be an intriguing player to watch and as the year goes on could he start to garner some snaps as he gets more and more comfortable?

Time will tell but Akinkunmi has a chance to have a role in 2025.

2025 interior offensive lineman outlook

This is one of the positions on the roster that seems to have plenty of bodies and talent but what remains is a lot of interest over who will be in the rotation. At right guard and center the Sooners return maybe the line’s two most clear starters in Febechi Nwaiwu and Troy Everett, respectively. However, there is competition chasing both including transfer Jake Maikkula and incoming standout freshman Ryan Fodje. On the left side Heath Ozaeta missed spring practice while recovering from a shoulder injury. The name to keep an eye on as a big riser is redshirt freshman Eddy Pierre-Louis.
