The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2025 Oklahoma football season. Everybody wants to forget about 2024 and move forward.

Head coach Brent Venables and staff have attempted to do that. New face calling the offense (Ben Arbuckle). Venables calling the defense, it’s now or never for this regime at OU in the SEC. No beating around the bush.

Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.

Crimson Countdown: No. 80 Bergin Kysar

2024 stats: One game, one tackle

2025 outlook:

Kysar remains another great example of OU being able to get guys to be a walk-on compared to taking a scholarship at another school.

That kind of depth that keeps building and building will eventually pay off. Kysar played in the initial game against Temple, registering a tackle.

Now a redshirt freshman, it’s still going to be about development. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 253 pounds, he’s getting closer to where you want him to be. And you want Kysar to keep pushing all those other defensive ends.

The goal? For Kysar to be ready to go at a moment’s notice. But the OU goal would be the group is so strong, so healthy that it’s not needed.

Staying ready for the moment, staying focused the key for Kysar.

2025 defensive end outlook

You know OU has a superstar on its hands in R Mason Thomas. And you know OU has some young guys looking to make a splash. The big thing? Sooners have to find that second guy to go with Thomas. There are a lot of candidates, but no easy favorite as we hit the summer. Miguel Chavis has done a nice job of building up the room. Now, though, everybody needs to go to that next level. It cannot be about being raw and having potential in 2025. This season must be about the production that is coming along with everything.
