Ryan Walters continues to build his maiden staff with Minnesota’s Brick Haley coming aboard as defensive line coach, GoldandBlack.com has confirmed. The news was first reported by Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.com.

Haley coached the d-line with the Golden Gophers in 2022 for P.J. Fleck. Before that, Haley was at Missouri from 2017-19 where he worked with new Purdue coach Ryan Walters under Barry Odom. Haley also has coach the defensive line at Texas (2015-16), LSU (2009-14) and Mississippi State (2004-06), in addition to a stint with the Chicago Bears (2007-08).

With over 30 years of experience, Haley also has had coaching stops at Georgia Tech, Clemson, Baylor, Houston, Troy, Austin Peay and Arkansas. The Gadsden, Ala., native played linebacker at Alabama A&M from 1985-88.

Haley is the sixth known hire for Walters, joining offensive coordinator Graham Harrell (West Virginia offensive coordinator), defensive coordinator Kevin Kane (Illinois associate head coach/OLB coach), outside linebackers coach Joe Dineen (Illinois GA), secondary coach Grant O’Brien (Illinois defensive analyst) and receivers coach Cory Patterson (Illinois running backs). Walters also has tabbed Kiero Small (Michigan) as strength coach.
