BC running back Alex Broome is one of 193 players that were named for the AFCA Allstate Good Works nominee list, officially released on Tuesday morning.

The list is comprised of FBS, FCS, DII, DIII and NAIA players that have been outstanding leaders in community service for their respective programs.

The final roster of 23 award recipients is announced in September. Here’s how the final team breaks down:

-11 players from the NCAA FBS
-11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Divisions II, III and the National –Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)
-One honorary head coach

A voting panel of former Good Works Team members, head coaches and journalists make the selections based on outstanding leadership on and off the field.

“When nearly 200 young athletes choose to serve, it creates a ripple effect far beyond the game,” said Danny Wuerffel, former NFL quarterback, Heisman Trophy winner and College Football Hall of Famer for whom the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy is named. “Their leadership in the community is just as worthy of recognition as their performance on the field.”

Well deserved recognition

After missing the entire 2024 season, Broome should be able to have a bounce-back year on the field while serving as an emotional leader off it. The rehab work and ability to grind just to be ready for training camp in a few weeks is a testament to his work ethic and dedication to the program. Aside from all his work outside of football and the classroom, Broome is just the definition of a great teammate.

Given how severe the injury was a year ago, to see him moving around and cutting as well as he was in spring ball was very, very encouraging. Back in 2023 as a sophomore he played in 11 games, but only started one of them. He had 60 carries for almost 300 yards and a TD. He also had a receiving touchdown and eight grabs.

The year before as a freshman, Broome appeared in 10 games, had 50 carries (225 yards) and a TD along with 26 catches and a receiving touchdown.

The addition of a healthy Broome is a huge boost to an already semi-loaded running backs room. He’s also a perfect guy to emulate in all aspects for the younger guys in that room that are just joining the team.
