Pair of Minnesota commits vying for prestigious Mr. Minnesota award

The finalists for the prestigious Mr. Minnesota Award were announced on Tuesday evening and a pair of Minnesota Golden Gopher commitments are among the ten players vying for the award.

The Gophers’ pair of representatives are Minnesota four-star tight end commitment Roman Voss and four-star defensive line commitment Howie Johnson.

Voss committed to the Gophers at the end of June over Alabama, though he held offers from several other notable programs including Iowa, Iowa State, Miami, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and USC among others.

Johnson, one of Minnesota’s longest standing commitments committed to the Gophers back in June of 2024. The Gophers were hi slone offer at the time at his decision and he has not reported any since, though more programs have certaintly reached out to the four-star defensvie lineman.

Also notably among the finalist is Chanhassen’s Owen Linder, a three-star offensive lineman committed to Iowa since January. Linder is ranked as the 32nd best interior offensive lineman in the country and the No. 5 player in the state of Minnesota.

Of Rivals’ top five prospects in the state of Minnesota, three are finalists. The only top fiev prospects not being named among the finalists are Triton four-star tight end Pierce Petersohn, who is committed to Penn State but is exploring his options, and Gophers four-star offensvie tackle commitment Andrew Trout, a standout at Rocori Senior.

Also being named as finalists are Micah Bush (Hills-Beaver Creek), James Engle (Maple Grove), Caleb Francois (Minnetonka), Carson Heimer (Byron), Izaak Johnson (Cretin-Derham Hall High School), Logan Lachermeier (Minneapolis North), Deron Russel (Waseca).
