West Virginia’s Sam White has signed a free agent deal with the Toronto Blue Jays, closing his WVU career after three seasons.

White, a native of Ontario, Canada, is returning to his home country’s MLB organization after he went undrafted in the 2025 MLB Draft earlier this week.

This past season, White was on a tear at the plate for the Mountaineers. He led WVU in batting average, hitting .361, while he also had five home runs, 17 doubles, and 46 RBIs.

White played in 51 games this season, starting all 51 of them, however, he dealt with a shoulder injury which sidelined him for part of the season. White has the ability to play all over the infield, seeing time at second base and third base, and also has brief experience as an outfielder. White’s roots are behind the plate though, serving limited time as a catcher during his career, while he was brought to West Virginia as a catcher.

In his three seasons, White appeared in 161 games, starting 148 of them. White’s offensive numbers got better each season, as hit batting average jumped by more than .100 between his freshman and junior seasons.

White is the seventh Mountaineer to get elevated to the professional ranks this week, as five players got drafted, and he’s the second to sign a free agent deal. West Virginia also had another transfer portal commitment get drafted.
