The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2025 Oklahoma football season. Everybody wants to forget about 2024 and move forward.

Head coach Brent Venables and staff have attempted to do that. New face calling the offense (Ben Arbuckle). Venables calling the defense, it’s now or never for this regime at OU in the SEC. No beating around the bush.

Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.

Crimson Countdown: No. 5 Kendal Daniels

2024 stats:

Played in all 12 games, making nine starts and totalling 64 tackles (11 tackles for loss), 5.5 sacks, seven pass break-ups, and three QB hurries at Oklahoma State.

2025 outlook:

Not even Kendal Daniels could have predicted a transfer to Norman after all those years on the other side of the Bedlam rivalry. Now the redshirt senior heads into his final college season as one of the most intriguing additions to Brent Venables’ program.

At 6-foot-5, 242 pounds Daniels fits perfectly into the Sooners scheme at cheetah. First year outside linebackers/cheetah coach Wes Goodwin knows a thing or two about the position and raved about Daniels coming out of the spring, making comparisons to former Clemson All-American Isaiah Simmons.

Barring injury it’s hard to imagine a world where Daniels isn’t a major contributor in 2025.

2025 cheetah outlook:

Brent Venables and company didn’t have to look too far when seeking depth at the cheetah position this past offseason. As soon as Kendal Daniels entered the transfer portal from Stillwater, he became option 1A for the Sooners. A combination of physical intangibles as well as experience makes Daniels a comfortable option alongside sophomore defensive back Reggie Powers. Powers is one of many second year Sooners that is expected to carve out a much larger role in the Sooners defense this season. Kendel Dolby is also an option at cheetah despite working at cornerback through the preseason. Jeremiah Newcombe has worked at cheetah as well.
