Bill O’Brien held his usual Tuesday press conference after practice ahead of the final home game this Saturday.

The Eagles will host Georgia Tech in what’s become a massively important game for the nationally-ranked Yellow Jackets. Meanwhile, BC is just trying to avoid being embarrassed at home one last time in 2025.

Here’s what stood out from O’Brien on Tuesday:

On if he believes going back & forth with the QBs shook their confidence at all this season

“I think some of it is, they have to give us confidence. It’s important for us to have confidence in them. They’ve each played a lot and they’ve done some good things and some not so good things. We think what’s best for the team…we try to make the best decision. It’s not something I decide alone. I’m the final decision maker, but ‘hey, what do you think here?’ I thought when Dylan went into the game last week – other than a few plays obviously – I thought he played pretty well. So, that’s just the way it’s been going.

“Anybody we put out there we have confidence in, then they have to go out there and play well. The guys around them have to play well. The people around them have to play well…the offensive line, the receivers, the tight ends, the running backs. It’s an 11-man effort, but ya, no, I have confidence in anyone we put out there.”

On balancing time between game prep and portal prep

“It’s hard to answer that because the portal…we don’t know who’s going to be in the portal. But, obviously we’re doing our due diligence on different resources we have to try and project the portal. Like I said last week – this is just me – I believe at Boston College – this is just my opinion – the portal is very difficult. Very difficult. You have no idea who at this point who is going to be in the portal. You can’t tamper with anyone going in..so, you know, you do your due diligence. You look at certain things that you have relative to certain resources you have to try and project who might be in the portal.

“Ok, well, there’s thousands of names. So, it’s impossible. Then, what type of student is he? What type of person is he? What kind of player is he? Where does he fit in your program? How does he fit at BC? This is a Catholic jesuit school that’s a smaller school that’s a high-academic school. Are they going to be able to transfer all of his credits into BC? What type of money is that guy looking for? What type of money do we have to compensate that player? There’s just a lot of different things that go into it. Ya, we work on it every single day, but it’s hard to say who that will end up being.”

On what this senior class has meant to him

“Just like last year’s, these two years, these guys have meant a lot. They’ve really…I just told them today, the way they approach practice regardless of the record is…I have a lot of respect for these guys. The guys that I would say have basically bled for this place. They’ve had some ups and obviously we’ve had some downs, but these guys have laid the foundation I think for what I believe is a bright future. Yeah, we owe a lot to these guys and they mean a lot to me personally, no doubt about it.”

On Lewis Bond closing in on all-time school receptions record

“He’s just a very instinctive, tough player. He could have left, could have gone to several different schools, stayed loyal to BC. For him to be able to have a chance to break the record is really a testament to him. His work ethic, his toughness, his competitiveness, awesome guy. Like I’ve said whenever I’ve been asked about Lewis Bond: he’ll go down as one of the best to ever play here at that position, no doubt about it.”

On Haynes King

“Haynes King without a doubt is one of the best players I’ve seen in two years. He is the toughest, he is the most competitive. I can’t say enough about the amount of respect that I have for him, the way that he plays the game. The passing game, the running game, this guy has a ton of their production. They way they use him is incredible to me. They do an unbelievable job using him, he’s the leader of that offense…he’s competitive, tough, without a doubt one of the top players we’ve faced in the two years I’ve been here.”
