The countdown to kickoff is officially on as Georgia Tech‘s season-opening matchup at Colorado on Aug. 29 is less than 100 days away.

Until then JOL will be counting it down with one Jackets’ player daily that wore the corresponding number of days remaining until toe meets leather in Boulder.

With it now 16 days until kickoff in Boulder, today’s focus is on the great No. 16 TaQuon Marshall, a quarterback that had two productive seasons as the starter under Paul Johnson in 2017 and 2018, racking up more than 2,000 rushing yards, 1800 passing yards and 44 total touchdowns in his career and setting the program record for single-game rushing touchdowns.

Marshall came to Tech in the 2015 recruiting class after a successful prep career at Harris County High (Ga.) in Hamilton as he was an All-State, All-Region and All-City player who chose to sign with the Jackets over multiple other offers.

He started his career as an “A-back” in Johnson’s option offense and played in nine games with limited stats as a true freshman but did have a touchdown reception during that 2015 campaign. Marshall shifted to quarterback as a sophomore and saw action in two games in 2016 while serving as a backup behind Justin Thomas.

Marshall finally got his shot as the starter to open the 2017 season and had quite a debut against Tennessee, setting the Georgia Tech program record for single-game rushing touchdowns with five and putting up the third highest single-game rushing yards total in program history with 249. Marshall went on to rush for 1,146 yards that season with 17 rushing TDs as well as throw for 927 yards and 10 touchdowns.

He had another solid season to close out his Tech career in 2018 with 971 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground to add to 900 yards and five touchdowns through the air.

After his time at Tech was finished, Marshall chose to give it a go at receiver leading up to the 2019 NFL Draft. He went undrafted but received an invite to mini-camp with the Baltimore Ravens. He also spent time that preseason at a mini-camp with the Atlanta Falcons but didn’t survive the roster cuts. Marshall last played in The Spring League for the Blues.

Marshall began a coaching career in recent years, serving as a graduate assistant at Georgia State in 2024.
