Nearly nine years after almost choosing Temple out of high school, Kenny Bennett has joined the Owls’ staff as a defensive graduate assistant, OwlScoop.com has learned.

A three-star prospect out of Simon Gratz in the Class of 2017, Bennett originally narrowed his high school recruitment to a Top 3 of Maryland, Temple and Pittsburgh before he ultimately chose Maryland in December 2016. Over the next five seasons with the Big Ten program, Bennett recorded 25 tackles, six pass deflections and an interception in Maryland’s 2020 win over Penn State. In his final season as a Terp, Bennett was named the program’s Special Teams Player of the Year.

Bennett transferred to Georgia Tech for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Due to a series of injuries, a COVID year and an initial redshirt year, Bennett was also eventually allowed to play the 2024 season with Virginia State. In total, Bennett’s collegiate career spanned eight seasons.

During his time at Maryland, Bennett was coached by current Temple cornerbacks coach Henry Baker for his final two seasons, who he will now reunite with. At Temple, Bennett will join a graduate assistants group that includes Matt Wolfe (Temple), Joey Antuono (Westminster) and Joe Collins (John Carroll).

Temple opens training camp July 30.
