Iowa Names Stacy May-Johnson Next Head Softball Coach
Stacy May-Johnson has been named the head softball coach at the University of Iowa, the school announced Wednesday afternoon.
May-Johnson, a former standout infielder for the Hawkeyes from 2003 to 2006, returns to her alma mater for the first time since serving as an assistant coach from 2011 to 2014. As a player, she was a three-time All-Big Ten selection and the 2003 Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
May-Johnson brings extensive coaching experience to Iowa. She previously served as the head coach at Fresno State and Utah Valley. She also held assistant coaching roles at Louisville, Eastern Kentucky and Purdue. Most recently, she was the head coach at Fresno State. This season, she led the Bulldogs to a 36-20 record and a runner-up finish in the Mountain West Conference Tournament. Fresno State finished third in the conference’s regular-season standings.

During her four-year tenure at Fresno State, May-Johnson posted a 112-106 overall record and improved the program’s win total each season. During her six years as a head coach, May-Johnson holds a 148-141 record with the two different programs.
This season, Iowa finished with a 35-18 record and placed sixth in the Big Ten Conference. Under May-Johnson’s leadership, the Hawkeyes will look to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009.
