It was the Lauren Derkowski and Addisen Fisher show for five innings in West Lafayette. The Michigan offense came alive in the sixth inning against the UCLA freshman. The two runs in the sixth were enough to propel Michigan into the NCAA Tournament with a 2-0 win, clinching their second straight

The Wolverines had mustered only one hit against the top-ranked recruit of the 2024 class, but it took one swing to get hot. Langford, Indiana Langford singled and scooted her way to second on a misplay by UCLA left fielder Rylee Slimp. Jenissa Conway smoked a ball to the wall over the head of her counterpart Jessica Clements to net the game’s first run. Ella Stephenson legged out an infield single on a diving stop by Bruin shortstop Kaniya Bragg.

Derkowski went five innings. A walk and an error put two Bruins on with one out in the fourth, but the senior righty retired the next two batters in order. Derkowski allowed a single in the fifth and Kaitlyn Terry dropped a perfect bunt. She reached after the throw to first base bounced off of the glove of Madi Ramey. Nevertheless, Derkowski came out unscathed and kept the game scoreless before her offense came through.

Derkowski exited in the sixth after a leadoff walk, giving way to Erin Hoehn. The pitching combination worked wonderfully again. Hoehn stranded the walk with the help of a great play by Maddie Erickson at third base.

Hoehn tossed a scoreless seventh inning to earn her fourth save of the season and close out the win.
