Keanu Williams had three tackles in Saturday’s game against Michigan State. It included a big hit on Spartans’ quarterback Aidan Chiles.

The victory marked the second consecutive win for the Bruins, who are now building momentum after a hectic stretch. UCLA has now played three games under interim head coach Tim Skipper and are 2-1 in that span.

The Bruins seem to have found some footing following the dismissal of head coach DeShaun Foster. UCLA and defensive coordinator Ikaika Malloe going their separate ways took place following Foster’s firing.

That left an adjustment period for key players like Williams. The comfort level is rising now with three games under the new-look staff.

“It’s starting to come together,” Williams said Tuesday after practice. “We’re starting to understand the playbook now, because before we had three days to do it and then we played Northwestern. And I just feel like that wasn’t enough time for all of us to get on the same page of a lot of stuff.

“But now that we’ve had two, three weeks in it, and we’re starting to get the routine of how plays are called, how he’s calling plays, and it’s just really starting to come together now.”

The momentum UCLA is beginning to build has sparked a rejuvenated attitude for the Bruins heading into this week’s game with Maryland.

“We’re having a lot of fun,” Williams said. “We’re having a lot of fun because of just, we kind of like don’t have nothing to lose. I mean, so it’s kind of like let’s go out there, let’s have fun. Let’s get some film on there, and let’s just ball. I mean, let’s just be together. Let’s do this together. We’ve had a lot going on, you know. So I just have fun with it.”
