West Virginia lands commitment from Illinois DB Vincent Smith

West Virginia has nabbed another commitment in the secondary with a pledge from Orland Park (Il.) Sandburg 2026 defensive back Vincent Smith.
Smith, 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, picked the Mountaineers over his other two finalists Purdue and Iowa. He also held scholarship offers from USC, Kentucky, and Iowa State, among others.
The Rivals three-star prospect was initially committed to Northern Illinois but narrowed his list down to the final three of Power Four options prior to making his choice.
Smith received an offer from West Virginia in May during the evaluation period when cornerbacks coach Rod West visited him. He then repaid the favor with an official visit to campus June 6-8, which propelled the Mountaineers up his list of options.
“They were emphasizing how much they think I could be a great fit for the program and how I could be an impact player for this team,” he said.
West Virginia is targeting Smith as a safety in the defensive scheme but he has the versatility to end up at multiple spots in the secondary.
Smith becomes the latest commitment for West Virginia since the summer official visit schedule kicked off and is a versatile athlete who drew plenty of major attention.
WVSports.com will have more with Smith in the near future.
