Former Five-Star Layla Lamar joins Duke transfer class

Former five-star 2024 recruit Layla Lamar is headed home to North Carolina. After spending her freshman season at Florida, Lamar joins Duke and her mom, head coach Marissa Young, giving the Blue Devils another bat in the lineup.
Lamar only had 17 at-bats with the Gators, hitting .235 with four RBIs. However, she was recently named the Florida Gulf Coast League Offensive Player of the Year. She went 33-67 (.561 BA) with six doubles, eight home runs and 28 RBIs.
Lamar joins fellow Duke transfers Larissa Jacquez, Mallory Wheeler and Tyrina Jones. The Blue Devils will also have former Big Ten Player of the Year Jess Oakland on the active roster after sitting out the 2025 season.
