Tennessee blanks Ohio State, advances to Super Regional

The Lady Vols pitching did it again, keeping the fierce Ohio State lineup in check. Tennessee beat Ohio State 5-0 to advance to the Super Regional round. The Lady Vols will await to host the winner of the Baton Rouge Regional between Nebraska and Southeastern Louisiana.
Sage Mardjetko gave Tennessee a great start in her outing. She held the home run-hitting Buckeyes to two hits in five innings. Mardjetko had a perfect mix, striking out five while inducing four groundouts and six flyouts.
Tennessee struggled to produce offense as well. The Lady Vols struggled to put runners in scoring position against Ohio State starter Kennedy Kay during the early innings. However, they had their chances in the fourth and the fifth innings but failed in five at-bats.
They finally broke through in the sixth. After Saviya Morgan reached on an error, Sophia Nugent roped one down the line and just got over the wall for a two-run home run. The play was reviewed, and it was upheld. Laura Mealer added another one with an RBI double.

Gabby Leach then tacked on a solo shot in the top of the seventh. Morgan picked up her second hit of the game, driving in Tennessee’s fifth run of the game.
The offense opened the door to allow Karlyn Pickens to close the game. Pickens tossed two innings, allowing one baserunner and struck out five.
