Oregon spring practice notebook: day two
The Ducks were back on the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex outdoor fields under sunny Eugene skies for the second day of spring practice Saturday afternoon.
Reportes and photographers were given access to the first 20 minutes of practice, which included 10 minutes of stretching and warmups and a few additional minutes of position drills.
Here are a few notes and observations from the limited portion of open practice during which players were working in helmets and spider pads.
Big recruiting weekend
This topic has been covered extensively on ScoopDuck, of course, but there is a massive group of visitors in Eugene this weekend.
A half-dozen, or so, of them were present at practice, from my observations.
That group was highlighted by 5-star Matayo Uiagalelei.
Keep up on the latest recruiting updates on ScoopDuck throughout the weekend.
Injury updates
There isn’t a ton of news on this front that is different from Thursday’s practice. The following group of players who were seen working off to the side Thursday did so again Saturday:
- Brandon Dorlus
- Popo Aumavae
- Daymon David
- Keyon Ware-Hudson
- Patrick Herbert
- Cam McCormick
- Jonathan Denis
- Justin Flowe
In addition to those players, OL Bram Walden and DL Jonah Miller were also working off to the side and doing band and resistance exercises.

Starting center Alex Forsyth was also not seen during position drills or warmups, but was not working off to the side with the other injured players either. We may find out more about Forysth’s situation during Dan Lanning’s presser later today.
Bo Nix up-and-running
For those who were concerned about the heath status of Bo Nix coming into spring ball, it appears the transfer quarterback is full-go.
Nix participated in footwork and throwing drills during the potion of practice that was open to media and moved well. He did not appear to be hindered in any way, shape, or form by the ankle injury that required surgery last November when he was still playing at Aubrun.
Nix, as well as Ty Thompson, worked with the tight ends on Saturday and both had some nice zip on their throws — although it’s hard to make too many sweeping observations from the limited throws that reporters were able to watch.
Dan Lanning is set to meet with reporters at 1:15 p.m. PT via Zoom this afternoon.
