Purdue recruiting target Jamyn Sondrup may decide 'more sooner than later'

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — Purdue recruiting target Jamyn Sondrup is working his way back from injury, and maybe toward a college decision.
After missing two months or so with torn ligaments in his ankle, the Class of 2026 big man is back on the floor for his Utah Prospects team this week for Nike’s final EYBL session, then the Peach Jam. That, not recruiting, has his full attention at the moment, he says.
“I’m just trying to think about this weekend right now,” Sondrup said, “then after this weekend I’ll think more about it and try to decide. More soon than later, I think, to at least cut it down. I’ll finish the weekend, then think about it.”
The 6-foot-9, 230ish-pounder from Springville, Utah, drew a slew of early offers last summer, including Purdue. Others came from Arizona State, BYU, Utah, Cal and more. Purdue and Washington, another who’s offered, have kept very involved. Sondrup visited both, including an official visit to West Lafayette during the season.
“I love it there,” Sondrup said of Purdue. “Great people, great place, great fans. It was just a great experience and a great environment to be in.”

Purdue tends to be fairly picky about post players, but has been all in on Sondrup for a year now, in part because of his low-post scoring ability and passing.
“But they also like that I can step out based on the way they guard,” Sondrup said. “I think they like that I can do a little bit of both.”

In his Augusta opener Thursday, Sondrup made all four shots he took, finishing with nine points in 19 minutes in Utah Prospects’ loss to an Oakland Soldiers team led by studs Jason Crowe Jr. (33 points) and Tyran Stokes (31).
Head coaches from Kentucky, USC, Xavier, Louisville, Indiana and Rutgers were among those present for the star-studded game, as well as assistants from Connecticut, Purdue, Texas, Tennessee and others, some of them also recruiting Junior County, the Utah Prospects guard who’s also a Boilermaker priority.
JAMYN SONDRUP SCOUTING REPORT
Sondrup is a big-bodied inside-outside combo post player who can score on the low block with strong post moves or step outside and make threes pretty efficiently. More of a below-the-rim sort of post player, similar to Boilermaker bigs Trey Kaufman-Renn, Trevion Williams and Caleb Swanigan, though quite different from all those players, Sondrup is crafty in the post, with good feet and really strong hands.
Most notably, he is an excellent, excellent passer well-suited to run offense through, whether it be in the post, in screening actions or in dribble hand-offs, all elements where his ability to step out and make a three can stretch out a defense.
An intangible that stands out: Sondrup is really vocal.
As he ascends to the college level, conditioning, quickness and strength development will represent the lion’s share of his developmental up-side.
