Bandits run-rule Talons, win first AUSL series

The Bandits earned the AUSL’s first run-rule win after a five-inning 8-0 victory over the Talons.
Former UCLA outfielder Bubba Nickles-Camarena opened the scoring for the Bandits in the first, hammering a solo home run. Odicci Alexander excelled to open the game, retiring every batter she faced through the first two innings.
In the bottom of the second, Devyn Netz led off with a double, then Delanie Wisz doubled the Bandits’ lead on an RBI triple to right field. Talon starter Mariah Lopez was then lifted for Alabama graduate Montana Fouts. Jordan Roberts, however, welcomed Fouts with a big fly. A two-run shot off the bat of Roberts gave the Bandits a 4-0 lead.
Emiley Kennedy entered the third in relief for the Bandits. The Texas A&M rookie stranded four baserunners, working a scoreless third and fourth inning. The four-run deficit remained after four innings and the Bandits turned to Lexi Kilfoyl to close the game.
Lauren Derkowski entered in the fourth for the Talons, but ran into trouble in the fifth. Skylar Wallace led off with a single and consecutive walks loaded the bases with no outs. An error from Sydney Romero at third scored the Bandits’ fifth run of the game, and the Talons turned to rookie Raelin Chaffin in the circle.
Chaffin recorded the first out of the inning, but then walked Wisz and surrendered an RBI single to Bella Dayton, extending the Bandits’ lead to 7-0. A pitch later, Sydney McKinney walked it off for the Bandits. The Wichita State grad singled to center field and scored the game-winning run to run-rule the Talons 8-0.

Kilfoyl’s one inning of work in the fifth was all it took for her to take home her second win of the season. Lopez, unable to get out of the second inning, earned the loss, surrendering three runs and lasting just three outs.
