Blaze run rule Bandits, Talons sweep Volts

Talons 8, Volts 2
Jadelyn Allchin kept her hot streak from the reserve pool. After fellow Washington alum Ali Aguilar tied the game with a RBI double, Allchin singled in two more runs for the Talons. She wasn’t done. Allchin had another RBI single as part of the Talons’ three-run sixth inning for a handful of insurance runs. Sierra Sacco drove in Allchin and Aguilar with a two-out double.
Caroline Jacobsen also drove in a run in the third. Victoria Hayward got in on the Huskies’ fun with her own RBI single in the seventh. Both Aguilar and Allchin had chances with the bases loaded, but Mariah Mazon struck out both to end the threat.
Raelin Chaffin put together another quality start. She went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Amanda Lorenz was the thorn in her side, though. Lorenz led off with a double. After a sacrifice bunt and fly, the Volts had their first lead of the series, but that only lasted so long. Lorenz also homered in the third.
The Volts put up a late fight. They had three straight hits, including an RBI double from Mia Scott. Lorenz stepped up once again, blasting a three-run homer, her second of the game to pull the Volts within two. In the end, it was too little, too late.
Blaze 11, Bandits 3 (F/6)
The Blaze didn’t get off to a hot start, allowing back-to-back home runs to Morgan Zerkle and Skylar Wallace to start the game. However, it’s about how you finish. The Blaze scored six runs in the sixth capped off by a Ana Gold two-run homer to snap their eight-game losing streak.
Korbe Otis immediately answered back in the bottom half of the first with her own solo shot to cut the lead in half. The Blaze took the lead for good in the second. Aliyah Andrews had a two-run single. Aubrey Leach and Danielle Gibson-Whorton drove in two more runs.

The Blaze were held quiet until their massive sixth inning. Kayla Kowalik, Otis, Leach and Gibson hit four straight doubles before Gold’s homer ended the game via run-rule.
Alana Vawter was great in relief. Vawter went five innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out four batters. She really only run into trouble in the fifth, surrendering three hits in the frame. Delanie Wisz hit a solo home run. Vawter allowed two straight singles, plus an error put the game-tying run in scoring position. However, Vawter retired Wallace to end the threat and keep the lead.
AUSL will take a break for International Competitions, returning to action on July 7.
