McCaffery to attend Nike Skills Academy
There have been four Iowa players who have been invited to attend the Nike Skills Academy. Patrick McCaffery will make it five Hawkeyes who have participated in the camp that takes place in Portland, Oregon.
Unfortunately, this special opportunity to train and play against the best players in the country means that McCaffery will miss much of the Iowa basketball trip to France and Spain. The Iowa men’s basketball program will be leaving for Paris on Saturday. McCaffery will join the team in Spain and potentially play in their final game on August 14th in Barcelona.
The Nike Skills Academy runs from August 7th to 12th and will provide McCaffery the opportunity to train alongside some of the best past and present NBA players and coaches. The prestigious skills development camp features the nation’s top collegiate players, which includes a combine experience, drills, off-court workouts, film sessions and competition.

“I am honored and excited about the opportunity to represent our basketball program at the Nike Skills Academy,” said McCaffery. “I am grateful for the opportunity and will do my best to make the most of it.”
McCaffery averaged 9.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, one assist and 0.8 steals during his junior season, where he played in 27 games with 14 starts. The Iowa City, Iowa, native reached double figures in 11 games and had five 20-point contests. McCaffery enters his senior season having scored 769 career points.
