Helm spent his whole career with the Longhorns.
His freshman season, he played in all 12 games, but really only appeared on the field goal unit, not as a tight end. He didn’t put up any offensive stats.
He finally started playing more on offense during his sophomore season, where he played in 13 games, and started four. He snagged 5 passes for 44 yards, and had his longest catch, 19 yards, in the Alamo Bowl against Washington.
His junior year, he had a very good season that was just overshadowed by the great campaign put together by Ja’Tavion Sanders. Helm played in 14 games, starting 6, while tallying 192 yards and 2 touchdowns on 14 catches. He was given honorable mention All-Big 12 honors for the season.

But in his senior year, he was finally the starter at tight end for Texas, and he excelled. He earned second team All-SEC honors, and was one of the most important pieces in the Texas offense. He caught 60 passes for 786 yards and 7 touchdowns, including countless 3rd down conversions in important moments. But, he had his fair share of explosive plays and added a hurdle to his repertoire, which he utilized throughout the season. He led the team in receiving yards against Michigan, Oklahoma, and Clemson, and was second overall on the season.
At the combine, Helm measured in at 6’5, 241lbs, and ran a 4.84 40-yard dash on a messed up ankle.
