Inside the Program: Arch Manning Shines in 7-on-7, future is bright at multiple spots

Arch Manning and the QBs took the field in 7-on-7 drills, showcasing their skills in early workouts. Freshman WRs are making plays, young DTs like Alex January and Justus Terry are generating buzz, and the RB room looks ahead of schedule.

The first topic is spring 7-on-7 passing sessions where the Longhorns’ starter in Manning is making a number of wow throws. There was even one that split a pair of defenders that got the whole team excited, yet Manning reacted nonchalantly like it was old hat for him. Manning as well as Trey Owens and KJ Lacey have made a number of throws in recent weeks and the future is in good hands at quarterback.

Much like an O-line class or a secondary class features guys who fit at particular positions, similar applies for the wide receivers who signed with Texas in 2025. Jaime Ffrench, Kaliq Lockett, and Daylan McCutcheon have all settled into roles within the Longhorn offense and have become trusted early in their careers. However, there’s still work to be done to unseat players like Parker Livingstone and Aaron Butler.

There’s a significant amount of buzz surrounding players like Justus Terry and Alex January, enough to where the future of the defensive tackle position is thought to be just as strong as the recent past in 2024. Terry is approaching 300 pounds while January looks more and more like a professional.

Finally, Christian Clark and Jerrick Gibson have drawn positive reviews, with Clark on his way back from an Achilles tear. Chad Scott and company should have quality options to where a portal look may not be necessary.
